[edit] Things to Know
- I've been putting new pages in with "(race)" or "(skill)" or whatever tag is necessary - I think eventually we'll want to be able to search for "silvan" and not just find the Silvan_(race) page, but also silvan NPCs, or silvan items, or what have you. It's just a better way (in my opinion) for separating things out, so we don't have to do a whole bunch of "see also" things.--Dorf 12:48, 27 March 2007 (MST)
- Another thing that might be useful (and I say this under the probably wrong assumption that people may not know a great deal about wikis): If you want to get a hold of someone or ask about what they're doing, go to their "talk" page (here's my link - yay) and leave a note there.--Dorf 12:57, 27 March 2007 (MST)
- I added sections like The Canon and Character Development to allow for more RP-focused areas to not only draw in RPers, but present an image of a kind of 'game balance' against the very hardcoded sections of skills and profs. I'll continue to work on these as time permits. I also broke down the History section into Tolkienesque "Ages" which I thought might be a good way to explore the game's founding, Arda v1, Arda v1.5, the dev22/ER release last few years, and finally what's going on today. For some reason I can't get images to embed, as access appears denied to that kind of thing, but once I figure it out I have a host of visual material that will work well to accent each of our sections from races to the world.--Carver
- I think that's a great idea, Carver. What would you use to distinguish between ages? I might suggest Founding->MT, MT->ArdaV2 Announcement, ArdaV2 Announcement->ER, ER->present - but then, I don't know the early history all too well.--Drogian 17:29, 28 March 2007 (MST)
- Something minor - when leaving notes on talk pages, click the "Your signature with timestamp" button up above so we know who's talking. :) It just two dashes followed by four tildes.--Dorf 13:28, 27 March 2007 (MST)
- I hope nobody minded me moving the "To-Do List" here to the Community Portal. It'd be a good idea, I feel, to get people steered toward working here so there isn't an obvious "WORK IN PROGRESS" scar on the front page when it opens :) --Tevildo 14:00, 27 March 2007 (MST)
- To flesh out the races and professions areas, I've started 'X Extended' subsections, which will be more detailed write-ups on how these various peoples and paths tie into Tolkien's world. The Silvan page currently offers some taste of what I'm doing here. Some of these areas are from the RP guides I've been working on, so hopefully they'll work toward that kind of development as well.--Carver 23:25, 28 March 2007 (MST)
- I added a category for "commands". I tried to add the Category tag to all appropriate pages, but I probably missed quite a few. Please add the appropriate tag (Category:Commands) at the bottom of every past/future page about a command. Also, should we divide up commands into different subcategories (semotes already is a subcategory)?--Chord 21:21, 30 March 2007 (MST)
- I created and stocked categories for Guilds and Defunct_guilds, giving the charter and external link (if any) for each. Durmanhoth and Thieves Guild got pages, but those pages aren't linked into the category, in keeping with their "Unknown" status. When the wiki goes public they can decide for themselves whether their pages stay orphaned or not. I didn't bother linking anything in the charters or providing historical notes for the existing guilds, and only gave brief histories for the defunct ones. Didn't feel qualified there. If someone else wants to tackle it, go nuts. --Tevildo (Talk | Contribs) 22:36, 2 April 2007 (MDT)
[edit] Images
- To what extent do we want to include images? Does anyone know how? I'm having trouble getting it to work.
- Currently, image uploading is disabled on this wiki.--Dorf 12:41, 28 March 2007 (MST)
- Are we going to enable image uploading? --Kelos 17:48, 28 March 2007 (MST)
- Uploading should now be enabled.--Melkor 06:16, 30 March 2007 (MST)
[edit] External Linking
- Links: I think we should limit external links to the bottom of each page, leaving them out of the main text so as not to be confusing. How much linking should we do? Wikipedia has a lot of information about specific places and characters, as does the Encyclopedia of Arda. Roleplaying resources are another likely bit to link. Thoughts? --Tevildo 07:14, 28 March 2007 (MST)
- I think it depends on the page. Some pages, like Maps, for example, are going to be filled with external links. Others, like Roleplaying, we should probably keep mostly focused directly on the game. I think as far as regions are concerned, we should have an introductory text based solely on the game - and then go ahead and put wikipedia/glyphweb links on the bottom. No reason we can't summarize the information necessary and make it game-friendly, but we might as well provide our sources as well.--Dorf 12:41, 28 March 2007 (MST)
[edit] Connecting Pages
- Should we try to keep everything connected, such that someone could access all pages by navigating from the front page without doing searches? I'm partial to this. Most if not all relevant information would be interconnected anyway.
- To the extent that we can, sure. I made all of the skill/profession pages interconnect with each other as necessary - but some will be a little harder to redirect, like Gender. What do we stick under "Related Pages" for that?--Dorf 12:41, 28 March 2007 (MST)
[edit] Graphics
- On the Places area part of the site, I'd like to include some images in major areas...sort of like what Redjack did on his Barad Aeglos: Redjack's Belegost image. Here is what I'd like to do, something like that, but using my maps...since they are the only ones really updated and are in color:
Belegost in Kelos' maps. I wouldn't stick with just that...I plan on making a border around it like Redjack did, so it looks a bit better. Thoughts? --Kelos 20:24, 28 March 2007 (MST)
[edit] Player names
If we insert current player status (i.e. warlord, gm, guild ranks, whatever) then it seems like we're putting ourselves in for a lot more maintenance in the future than what is really ideal (see durbatuluk). I suggest we only insert player names as historical notes, rather than as "current status". Along these lines, I don't think we should have such a thing as a current list of guildmembers or whatnot, but listing people who have been in the guild at any time would work.--Drogian 12:46, 29 March 2007 (MST)
[edit] Other Notes
I just wanted to make a note here that this team rules!
This project going to be a great success and huge resource to the T2T community thanks to your efforts!
You guys totally rock! THANK YOU! --Melkor 18:01, 31 March 2007 (MST)
