[edit] Story

Vigilante has always been, as his name implied, a vigilante. He began as a sheriff so as to seek the help and advice of the more experienced sheriffs who congregated in the secret sheriff's hall. His desire to be a vigilante quickly drove him away from the law, though. The law could not deal with those who had not broken it, and so immorality and dishonor often went unpunished. It was when he was looking for a trainer in the illicit art of assassination that Vigilante met his first love, Aurora. She tried to recruit him to the dark, but Vigilante believed strongly in Eru. Still, Vigilante pretended to be evil in the hopes of infiltrating the Sons of Ulfang.

Although neither that nor his plans to be an assassin survived long, Vigilante continued to go adventuring with Aurora, staying by her side like a little puppy which cannot protect its master but is determined to try anyway. It was when they were both exploring Minas Tirith during the first rush of adventurers to that place that Vigilante finally told Aurora of his love for her. He spoke in her tongue: "Im mela, Aurora." Aurora rebuffed his love but remained friendly to him. In the time that followed Vigilante would often write out poems dedicated to her, all the while trying to return her to the light. Eventually Aurora resigned as a Daughter of Ulfang and soon took her own life.

Vigilante discovered Aurora death upon his retun from a scholarly trip and blamed himself for not being at her side to counsel her through her depression. Vigilante grew depressed himself and was contemplating following his Aurora into the Void, but then something happened. . . . Soon he was seen around his old haunts once more looking better than ever. His bank account grew slim as a wedding band appeared upon his finger and that of his new bride, Windsong. She too, has passed into the void, but if you ask Vigilante nicely he just might pull out a glass flute and play for you one of his poems for Aurora; he still has the music after all these years.

Of course, as a sheriff you tend to make enemies. Vigilante's had his fair share of them, but one sticks out: Rendor.

A few years ago, Vigilante was debating something and sent a letter to all the Guildmasters asking for input. Rendor was rather insulting and profane in his response, so Vigilante asked him to stop. Rendor's reply was very insulting and profane, so Vigilante got annoyed and forwarded it to Rauko. Five minutes later the Wheel started spinning, and Rendor walked off with one less hand than he had had before. Rendor decided to teach Vigilante a lesson and kill him, but afterwards Vigilante reported Rendor for murder and refused to drop the charges. In the end, Vigilante died 4 times out of 8 attempts on his life and bounced back without too much effort.

Like they say, you can't keep a good man down.

After the fall of the sheriff profession, Vigilante became first a Ranger and then the Warrior that he is today. However, his heart will always be with the Sheriffs, and he wears his old badge with pride.

Vigilante heard of Aragorn's call to his kinsmen and began openly rallying the Dunedain of the North in the summer of 2001. They became an official clan when that option was first introduced and have been a guild since the summer of 2004. Vigilante has been their leader throughout that time period.

[edit] "Ode to Aurora I"

"Starless" is my star,
Daughter of night's darkness,
And as I worship from afar,
I can see my lady harkens
To the dream of endless night.

[edit] "Ode to Aurora II"

Light and dark are opposites,
and yet light is the dark's cause
and dark gives to light a need
for brightness as its gift back.

Thus is light able to love dark,
which gives to it a purpose,
but dark will not love the light,
which creates and destroys it.

Tragedy is this way formed.
Or Romance is, but it takes
more to move in that manner.
I am bound for tragedy.

[edit] "Ode to Aurora III"

Beauty is not enough to
name Lady mine, for Beauty
is a term of human make,
and she is not a human.

Indeed, she is one of the
eternals, an elven maid,
and her grace is infinite,
and such is her lovelyness.

And therefore do I love her,
and therefore do I lose her,
for she can have what e'er she
wants, and I am not enough.

[edit] "Peacekeepers"

Good destroys and evil does too;
civilians are caught between
rock, hard place, are cruched, hurt, killed,
and cry out for a safeguard.

Up come two, who defend them
against hurt, and all those who
harm they stop, and leave so that
retribution hurts others not.

One light man and one dark lady
fighting bad and fighting good,
whirling blades and weaving spells,
fighting for the people's life.

[edit] "Two"

Two dark men on two dark horses,
with fast, sharp swords and powerful voices,
magic things and magic voices,
riding out to meet the night.

Ride into town, and pull out weapons;
they cast light spells and close on voices,
take down thieves and help the hopeless,
riding on to fight the night.

Always ride, to unknown places;
they're never stopping, thus keep on fighting
night always is out there, somewhere;
forever the two shall ride.

[edit] "Requests"

I really ought to improve
my writing skills for making
these crazy songs and poems.

I've sung of love and loss and
dark and light and all that fun
stuff. Now I need new topics.

Requests, anyone?
