[edit] MUD Definition

(from "help trainers":)

One of the fundamental aspects of leveling your character in Arda, are the trainers. Trainers are located in many cities throughout Arda, and will train you in specified skills, for a fee of course. There are trainers for each profession available, including civilian.

When you choose your desired profession in the game, you need to go to a trainer of that profession, in order to be initiated into the profession. Normally this is done by typing 'study' but may also be something else, such as 'spar'.

To see what a trainer can train you in, and also how much they will charge, type 'cost'. The prices displayed for each skill, are the prices to advance the skill by 1 point. For example, if it shows 'Strength 27' then it will cost 27 gold to train 1 point of strength.

To train a particular skill, type 'train <stat/skill>', for example, 'train strength'. The gold will be automatically deducted from your pockets, and your skill will rise in that particular stat/skill.

There is always more than one trainer for a particular profession, and these trainers invariably offer different prices to train professional skills. Some are cheaper than others, and it is a good idea to shop around before training skills with a trainer - the savings add up.

Trainers can also train secondary skills, that is, skills that are not related to your profession, but you want to train because of their usefulness. Different trainers can train different skills to non-members of their profession, and at different prices.

Trainers are also used to train stats. Different trainers can train different stats. No trainer can train all stats, so you need to use quite a few different ones in order to get them all trained. Unlike with skills, the prices offered for stats are the same no matter which trainer you use.

NOTE: There is no assassin trainer willing to train anyone under level 5. The assassin profession is not a newbie profession, and can be very challenging. It is NOT a recommended 'first profession'.

Languages are also learned at trainers. Language trainers only teach languages, not skills. Their prices also vary, and not all of them teach 100% of a particular language.
