[edit] MUD Definition

From "help sindar":

The Sindar are the oldest and most noble race in Middle Earth. They look like Silvan elves, except they tend to be taller, thinner, and quicker. They are not as strong as most of the other races, but they are very agile. The Sindar tend to understand magical spells better than the other races, and they can learn to move about almost completely unnoticed. They make good wizards or possibly thieves. They are capable warriors, but aren't as tough as Silvan elves.

[edit] Sindar Extended

The first race of Arda to awaken was the Elves, lovers of starlight and language, free from illness or mortality. When the Valar learned of the Elves' arrival they took three to Valinor as ambassadors. The three convinced most of their kindreds that the Undying Lands were far safer than Middle-Earth, which was then under the sway of Morgoth, and they undertook the Great Journey. Elwë, the leader of the third and largest group (the Teleri), was lost for a time when he encountered and was enchanted by the Ainu Melian. Those of his people who ceased the Journey to search for him became known as Sindar, the "Grey Elves"--neither Dark Elves who refused the summons, nor Light Elves who dwelt in Valinor. Under the reign of Elwë, who had seen the light of the Two Trees, and his wife Melian, a wise and powerful spirit, the Sindar grew to become the most enlightened people east of the Sea.

Many Sindar still remain in modern times. Celeborn and Thranduil are Sindarin, although their subjects are mostly Silvan. Cirdan the Shipwright, the eldest Child of Iluvatar known in Middle-earth, is also a Sinda. The largest concentrations of Sindar would most likely be found in Imladris and the Grey Havens, although these places also have significant Noldorin populations.
