[edit] MUD Definition

From "help silvan":

The Silvan elves are less noble and wise than the Sindar, but they are generally stronger and better in combat than their more magical relatives. They closely resemble men, except for the slightly pointed ears, and a slighter build. They are familiar with the ways of magic, but they are not nearly as magical as the Sindar.

[edit] Silvans Extended

Silvan elves are a secretive people. Like the dwarves, they are largely insular and fiercely protective of their homelands.

The elves we now know as Silvan (which is a description rather than an actual race, meaning "of the forest") are descended from two groups: the Avari or 'Unwilling' who never joined the Great Journey, and the Nandor, who were Telerin elves that left the Journey before crossing the Misty Mountains.

The primary Silvan realms in Middle-Earth's Third Age are Lothlorien and Mirkwood, located about Thranduil's Kingdom. Although both lands are "ruled" by Sindar, these dense woodlands are populated almost exclusively by Silvan elves of Nandorin descent.

Silvan elves do speak their own tongue, Silvan ("Nandorin" in the books), but it has largely been subsumed by the more formal and widespread Sindarin. As such, Silvan elves, particularly those born in the Third Age, would most likely speak Sindarin with an identifiably Silvan "accent."
