From "help tradeskill sewing":
The sewing tradeskill is used for sewing and dyeing clothing. In order to sew, you will need to get yourself a sewing kit and various sewing implements: needles, thread, buttons.
You may also obtain packets of dye. These four types of item may be stored in your sewing kit, which autoloads. The items you place in your sewing kit will also autoload.
Once you have a sewing kit, you also have access to the 'sew' command. The 'sew' command has full syntax help as well as a list of all manner of goods which you may sew, such as pants, a shirt, a backpack, or a pocket. Once you have a pocket, you may sew a pocketed shirt, for instance.
Most items require a full sheet of material, but some only require a strip. You may use a sheet of material to sew something that requires only a strip. Most items can be created with any material, though some require a particular material, like leather.
Materials can be obtained through certain shops or through harvesting and weaving materials into sheets.
The sewing tradeskill is important to the sewing process not only as far as your chance of success is concerned, but as far as the quality of the item and the size of the pocket. You may modify your sewing with things like 'fancy', 'exquisite', 'embroidered', etc; these modifications increase the difficulty of the item, but raise the value.
The sewing tradeskill is also used in the dyeing process. You may dye almost any article of clothing as well as your sewing materials: thread, buttons, and material. Dependant on your sewing tradeskill, you may not dye the cloth as richly as you may wish. Dyes may appear faint, light, as-is, or bright, in order of least dyed to most.
If you leave the room in which you are working on an item, or wish to stop working on an item, you may simply 'postpone' your work until later. You may 'complete' your work at any time.
Tailors and seamstresses with high skill level will be able to sew their name and surname into their products.
