The Eorlings, also known as a nation by the title Rohirrim, are fair-haired men, descendents of Eorl, the first King of Rohan. While not as long-lived as Dunedain, they are a hardy and hale people. They are generally tall, blond, and exceptionally good horsemen. They are a noble race, but--unlike the Dunedain--their nobility is tied to the land and more strictly linked to deeds of daring in mounted combat. Rohan is the name of their kingdom, a land of rolling plains and hills. This land was granted to Eorl by Cirion of Gondor roughly 500 years ago.

In ancient times a chieftain named Frumgar brought his people, the Éothéod, to the Northern Vales of Anduin. This people eventually formed ties with Gondor and were called on for aid during the invasion of the Balchoth. Just when it seemed that Gondor's plight was hopeless, the young lord Eorl arrived on the field with the mighty cavalry of the Éothéod and won the day. In payment, the Steward Cirion granted them the province of Calenardhon which had become depopulated over the years. Now it seems that events very like these are again unfolding...
