• Mortal:

The normal user is of mortal rank.

• Newbie:

Strictly defined as someone under level 5. They cannot yet use the main comm, nor should they be venturing out of West Arda or Far Harad. They may use the newbiecomm and seek assistance from newbie helpers.

Loosely defined, a newbie is a person new to or unfamiliar with the game. It's sometimes used as a pejorative term.

• Helper:

Newbie helpers are people who have volunteered to aid newbies. If you are a newbie and you need help, type "who helper" to find one.

• Clanmaster:

A clanmaster is the head of a clan, unsurprisingly. It will not appear in their legend, but you can view a list of them in the clan room in Bree.

• Guildmaster:

Guildmasters run the guild they are in. Each guild has a Guildmaster.

• Warlord:

Warlords run the legions they command, comprised of their supporters. Each legion has a single warlord.

• Commander:

Commanders help their Warlord in administrative duties. There may be several of these per legion.

• Playtester:

Playtest characters are allotted to certain mortals to help test new areas. While you can legend them, you shouldn't see them in your normal activities.

• Maiar:

Maiar are the workers of Valinor; they code new areas and work on the bulk of bug reports submitted by mortals.

Additionally, Maiar can be granted the following certifications:

Elder: Elders are members of Valinor who have earned, through their long term contributions, the right to remain in Valinor even though they may temporarily be retired, and not contributing.

Maker: Makers are the Maiar who work on system level code. They work behind the scenes on all the stuff you never notice, that makes everything tick.

Liaisons: Maiar Liaisons perform key functions assigned by the Powers. Public liaisons include: Balance liaison, Theme liaison, and Guild liaison.

• Project leader:

The Maiar are in various project groups. Each group in charge of developing a new area for the game. The leader of a group is responsible for maintaining group membership, production, and reporting to the Power of Production. Players will not be able to identify who is a project leader - that is Ainur-only information.

• Overlords:

Maiar Overlords are the Maiar who ensure that all new areas entering the game pass a certain set of standards. They work day and night combing through file after file making sure everything is as it should be.

• Council:

Council rank is granted to Powers who have moved on from their position. This is a special rank and should be respected.

• Powers:

Powers are the peace keepers of Arda. They make sure everything works runs and is in order. There are several powers in charge of maintaining various aspects of the game.

• Valar:

The Valar are the founders of the mud, who have retired their duties to the Powers.

• Testchar:

Testchar is a mortal player owned by an Ainu which is controlled by the Ainu for the purposes of testing code and new areas. It does no good to attempt to interact with these characters since your communication will most likely not be noticed by the Ainu.

• Legend:

Legends are mortal characters controlled by Ainur in special occasions such as role-playing events.
