The informational charter for the Glorglas guild

East of the Vales of the Anduin lies the vast Mirkwood. Thought to be as old as the world itself, it is now a dark place where creatures of evil dwell. Yet it was not always so. Once it was known as Eryn Galen, Greenwood the Great, the mightiest forest of western Middle-earth. The renaming occurred at the end of the first millennium, when Sauron raised the tower of Dol Guldur and cast his Shadow upon Greenwood.

It is during this time that Glorglas appears to have taken its roots. A small, elite branch of King Thranduil's forces, it consisted of the army's best soldiers who had undergone rigorous training in the finer points of ambush tactics and the ability to sustain one's self in the wild for months at a time.

For centuries Glorglas kept a quiet but sharp watch over the woods, keeping the area around Thranduil's caves free from Orcs and other vermin from Dol Guldur. It was not until the year 3018 TA, when war started to brew again, that Glorglas returned to full activity. Realising that he was not likely to receive aid from the besieged Dalefolk or Erebor Dwarves, King Thranduil knew he must seek help elsewhere. He summoned the Glorglas and charged them with a twofold mission.

He laid upon them the task of weakening the hold of evil upon his land in general, and outside his caves in particular. To accomplish this mighty task, the Elves were also ordered to search out their scattered kindred, to teach them their craft as much as they may, and lay waste to the camps of the Orcs while they slept. Relying on stealth and surprise rather than force of arms, they hope to liberate their people so that they may soon once again revel in the sunlight and dance under the stars of the lady Varda.
