Character Development

T2T provides numerous ways for your character to develop, some more obvious than others. Among them:

  • Gaining stats and experience, which allow you to level up.
  • Gaining skills, which allow you to improve in your profession.
  • Learning languages, which unlike the previous items is not something you lose when you die.
  • Some people view the collection of description tags and autoloading items as a form of character development.
  • Some PKers like to gather ears of their victims for the sense of achievement.

In less concrete terms, characters may also be developed through their actions, descriptions, and affiliations. For example:

  • Joining a clan, guild, or legion and adding their RP and history to your own.
  • Forming or joining a family, or otherwise making use of surnames.
  • Writing a character history using the "story" command.
  • Populating a songbook and performing.
  • Obtaining custom-described items.
  • Setting custom speech and emotes to better fit one's character.
  • Taking advantage of "describe" and "wardrobe" to distinguish your appearance.
  • Writing material to post on one of Arda's many boards or otherwise display; the Common Tater is a good example.

A roleplayer will say that anything which helps you portray your character, or aids other people in comprehending your character, is worthwhile development. Others prefer to focus on more easily quantifiable standards. There's no "right way" in a game as open-ended as T2T.
