Character Development
From t2twiki
As a player, you must choose several options to create a character, starting with race and gender. Once your character is formed, you have several ways to develop her (or him).
- Improve the character's stats and experience, which allows her to level up.
- Choose a profession, which allows your character to gain skills and abilities.
- Learn languages from those that teach them, which, unlike the previous items, is not something your character will lose when she dies.
- Amass gold in bank accounts.
- Raise or lower your character's alignment based on who and where you kill.
In less concrete terms, characters may also be developed through their actions, descriptions, and affiliations. For example:
- Take advantage of "describe" and "wardrobe" to distinguish your character's appearance.
- Set up custom speech and emotes to better fit one's character.
- Collect autoloading items and special tags from quests.
- Some PKers like to gather ears of their victims and hang them on a metal necklace.
- Join a clan or guild and add their RP and history to your character.
- Form or join a family, or otherwise making use of a surname.
- Write a character history using the "story" command.
- Populate a songbook and perform with musical instruments.
- Obtain custom-described items.
- Write material to post on one of Arda's many boards or gossipers; the Common Tater is a good example.
- Earn kudos by roleplaying with others.
A roleplayer will say that anything which helps you portray your character, or aids other people in comprehending your character, is worthwhile development. Others prefer to focus on more mechanically defined standards. There's no "right way" in a game as open-ended as T2T.
